Engineered Propulsion Systems nutzt CGI für Luftfahrt-Dieselmotor

[New Richmond, Bridgnorth und Stockholm, 17. Dezember 2015] – Engineered Propulsion Systems (EPS) hat erstmals die Festigkeit und Steifigkeit von Gusseisen mit Vermiculargraphit (Compacted Graphite Iron / CGI -) zusammen mit einem ‘flat V’-Motoren Design vereint und einen neuen Maßstab für die Anwendung in der allgemeinen Luftfahrt gesetzt. Basierend auf einem CGI-Zylinderblock wurde der 4,3 Liter Achtzylinder ein sehr kompakter Motor der durch einfache Installation, Langlebigkeit und niedrigen Luftwiderstandsbeiwert überzeugt. Die Verwendung von CGI ermöglichte es EPS einen komplett neuen Luftfahrt -Dieselmotor zu entwickeln, der in Sachen Gewicht, Größe, Zuverlässigkeit und vor allem Verbrauch neue Maßstäbe setzt. Die ersten Tests mit Prototypen-Motoren haben eine Leistung von 105 PS pro Liter (77 kW/l) nachgewiesen, was zu einer Gesamtleistung von 450 PS (332 kW) führt. Das Einbaugewicht des 450PS Dieselmotors ist nahezu identisch zu 350 PS (257 kW) luftgekühlten Turbo-Motoren, die derzeit in der Luftfahrt Anwendungen finden.
